The Supersoul, or Vishnu, sustains the universe and resides in the hearts of all living beings. While the Supersoul witnesses the desires of the individual soul, It exists separately outside and inside all beings. Though It appears divided among all, the Supersoul is never actually divided and remains one. This is compared to the sun, which though situated in one place, appears to shine from different locations to observers around the world.

STANDARD IX CHAPTER 13 BODY, SOUL AND SUPERSOUL Krishna knows you better than you yourself do So be careful in what you do& don’t think that no one is watching you Lesson-03 HOW IS THE SUPERSOUL LIKE? IS HE SAME AS THE SOUL? Supersoul (or Vishnu) is one of the forms of Krishna that sustains this universe. The Supersoul is residing in the heart of all living beings. The Supersoul is different from the soul. The Supersoul witnesses and sanctions desires of the soul. The Supersoul exists outside and inside of all living beings, the moving and the nonmoving. Because He is subtle, He is beyond the power of the senses to see or to know. IF THE SUPERSOUL IS IN THE HEART OF ALL PEOPLE, IS HE DIVIDED INTO PARTS? OR ARE THERE MANY SUPERSOULS?
- 2. Although the Supersoulappears to be divided among all beings, He is never divided. He is situated as one. The example is given of the sun: The sun, at the meridian, is situated in its place. But if one goes for five thousand miles in all directions and asks, "Where is the sun?" Everyone will say that it is shining on his head. So there are not ‘many’ suns nor the sun is divided. In the Vedic literaturethis example is given to show that although Supersoul is undivided, He is situated as if divided. Also it is said in Vedic literaturethat one Vishnu is present everywhere by His omnipotence, just as the sun appears in many places to many persons.
