FOUNDERS, SPOT
PEOPLE USING YOU OR
TRYING TO USE YOU
A user is define as a person that uses someone
selfishly or unethically. My experience on LinkedIn
and every social media for a while has sort of
become more and more about people chasing
trophies. What I mean is that some people think
relationship and connection at an event, LinkedIn
or other is just get the milk and kill the cow.
It’s basically get what you can get from them
whether: a job, money, sale, advice, introduction,
status, sex, popularity, coolness, etc and disregard
any mutual benefit. I’m sure many of you receive
endless invitation to connect and endless cold
emails on LinkedIn. If you are doing it with an
unhealthy shot-term thinking, you will regret it
professionally and financially because no one like’s
being used.

So due to the numerous amount of people I meet everyday,
which is bound to increase with time, I wanted to help other
founders spot shortsighted-selfish-contacts from those
willing to invest time and effort for the long-term picture.
This guide will help founders, linkedin users, social media
users, networkers, and anyone who deals with people.
19 WAYS FOUNDERS CAN SPOT USERS via
LINKEDIN / ANYWHERE
BONUS: BEST PRACTICE TIPS
By Emmanuel “Manny” Omikunle of BJ
MANNYST + FOUNDERS UNDER 40™ GROUP
№1
You meet them at an
event, and in less than a
week, they start asking
for a few too many favors
without a win-win
proposal. Never even
built the connection first
or personalize the invite
message.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№2
In online and offline
conversations they focus on
what they want. It's like “our
product is the best so buy it”.
Their attitude is what can you
do for me. It's ok if Wal-Malt
does it however everyone
else needs to figure out how
can you help others get what
they want while getting what
you want.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№3
They make it seem you are
doing yourself a favor by
helping them. For example,
they talk you into helping
them find clients so they will
then stop harassing you.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№4
When you do a few favors for
them, you never hear from
them until they need
something else. Not even a
thank you, follow up or
acknowledging the
contribution you made.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№5
They have the tendency to
dump their problems on you
and avoid hearing your own
problems. Then you are left
feeling used and disposable.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№6
They threanten or guilt trip
you into doing things for them
or for others. For example,
they threanten to not
hangout with you this
weekend because you
wouldn't make a few intro
calls.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№7
They are usually nice, sweet,
friendly, considerate, when
they want something. Once
they get it you become an
annoyance.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№8
They do very little things or
favors but aspect you to walk
on fire for them. For example,
they will buy you coffee one
day, and with time talk you
into a four hour drive to a
meeting out of your way.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№9
The conversation you both
have is not a mutual give-take
or lacks signs of specific
interest in you. If someone is
not asking relationship
building questions such as
“what made you decide to
study that in shcool and what
do you hope to do with that?”.
Then go slow.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
IT SHOULD GET YOU
NOTICED EVERYTIME.

SHOULD BE LIKE A
CLASSIC CAR. . .
SPONSOR
№10
They can be a emotionally or
physically distance because
they are waiting for
something better or maybe
for other reasons. For
example, you connect with
them on LinkedIn and you're
trying to learn more about
them over coffee but they just
keep shutting you out. Yet,
you are both connected on
social networks.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№11
You observe them doing
everything you do. They
connect with the exact same
people, join similar LinkedIn
groups, stealing your contacts
or opportunities you express
interest in, share similar
content, same events. They
are emulating till they can
eliminate you.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№12
They don’t have your best
interest in mind. As one
begins and continues to build
their career, you will
encounter people /
instituations who are not
after a win-win. They are after
their own objectives and
don't give a fuck about you.
The financial crisis of 2018
comes to mind, sub-prime
anyone.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№13
They encourage you to dine
them, splurge, help, support
or basically keep them happy
while they never provide you
with the same or equivalent
affection or respect.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№14
They will use cunning tests to
see if you are a doormat or if
you have a backbone by
seeing what they can get
away with. For example, you
will buy them lunch almost
every work week but will use
execuses to avoid treating you
to anything.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№15
They seem to reveal secrets
you told them in confidence
and are willing to leverage
information for their own gain
even if throwing you under
the bus was needed for their
objective.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№16
You ask them common
general basic questions and it
seems like a struggle (no
speaking problems). They are
just telling you something
totally different since your
last discusiion.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
IT SHOULD GET YOU
NOTICED EVERYTIME.

YOUR MARKETING
SHOULD BE LIKE A
CLASSIC CAR. . .
SPONSOR
№17
Their desire for social
connection with yours and
their contacts seems none
because they are trying to
keep a distance from any
deep relationship or avoid
been found out that they are
just using you or possibly
have something to hide.
Maybe really just want a
transactional relationship.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№18
Their actions and character
are not necessarily perfect
but with time reveal their true
nature such as lying about
simple things like where they
went to school or where they
baught their dress / suit.
Another example, they agree
to meet at a time they picked
but cancel everytime.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
№19
When you do confront them
about being taking advantage
of and you stopped being a
doormat, you will notice their
behavior will change. It will go
to completely avoiding you,
portraying you as the enemy,
trying to turn you back, or
simply contributing equally to
the relationship.

CONNECTING VIA
LINKEDIN
• Invitation via Linkedin from people you
don’t know is like sticking your hand in
the first hole you see in the rain Forest.
It’s a huge gamble because you never
now if it will be worth it or not.
• All the quantity of connection you may
have will likely not result in great
opportunities because most will not truly
be sure who you are.
• The quality of connections also decides
what kinds of content, information, and
resources are available to you. ROI goes
up when you seem to be an invaluable
credible connection.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
• Whomever you invite to connect to is also you
inviting them to get closer to your contacts,
clients, friends, partners, etc. And if your
contacts are unable to verify the nature of the
connection you have, then it could be harmful.
• It’s the bond and relationship that helps seal
the deal faster not you are just connected on
LinkedIn. So make time for coffee, meet them
at more events, reconnect often if possible
without being pushy or needy.
• Personalize your engagement and reduce
probability of rejection. There's no guarantee
that people will be receptive to all your
invitation to connect on LinkedIn, so don't get
too down. However try to warm up connection
before you connect by commenting on their
post, sharing, liking,etc.

CONNECTING VIA
LINKEDIN
• Connecting with others From your past
requires warming up the connection with
a clear message. How they should know
you, and why reconnecting would be
beneficial.
• Connect with people not because of what
they can do for you. Connect because you
could grow with them on a personal or
professional level with or without ROI .
Seek constructive people.
• If a connection ended badly let it go
unless there’s a very good chance you can
reconnect or save it.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
• Whether to put a new connection under personal
or professional. I once met a woman who I found
very attractive and was trying to put her in the
personal however there was some confusion and
she’s in the professional zone now. So if possible
engage “personal” outside of LinkedIn and clearly
state that “You like them and want to get to know
him / her on a personal level”
• If you don't know the person and they don’t know
you, and you just want their LinkedIn updates you
can just follow them on LinkedIn instead.
• People are so busy that they don’t have time for
long bodies of messages. Keep intro to within five
lines and have a clear complying reason to connect
if they don’t know you.
CONNECTING VIA
LINKEDIN
• Create trust, build authority, and build strategic
partnership.
• The potential that invites could be harmful or
possibly leaving you vulnerable to virus, spy-
ware or people phishing for your info by using
fake profile, misleading links that lead to
identical looking site is real. so try avoiding
clicking links or connecting without variefy.
• If you don't recognize the profile carefully check
them out however still be extra cautious.
• Make sure to run security programs on your
devices and keep all security software updated.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
• Always be looking at the email addresses, send
from, spelling, subject, that could be misleading
to believe it's from LinkedIn, FaceBook or other
institutions like banks.
• Whatever activity you have to perform always
go direct to LinkedIn.com and make it has
“Https://” or security.
• Never give your sensitive info to anyone via any
communication method unless you can verify
them. Use your head and ask questions.
• it's really possible for others to imitate your
entire look and persona so be careful what you
share online.
CONNECTING VIA
LINKEDIN
• A big red flag is the sender has very few
connections usually within single digits.
• The profile is not complete – in fact, most
sections are blank or only have a couple
of sentences.
• There are lots of misspellings.
• By connecting to the wrong people you
could end up giving legitimacy to people.
SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST
• If messages via LinkedIn gets spammy you
can block the person and report them to
LinkedIn.

  • 25. CONNECTING VIA LINKEDIN • Invitation via Linkedin from people you don’t know is like sticking your hand in the first hole you see in the rain Forest. It’s a huge gamble because you never now if it will be worth it or not. • All the quantity of connection you may have will likely not result in great opportunities because most will not truly be sure who you are. • The quality of connections also decides what kinds of content, information, and resources are available to you. ROI goes up when you seem to be an invaluable credible connection. SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST • Whomever you invite to connect to is also you inviting them to get closer to your contacts, clients, friends, partners, etc. And if your contacts are unable to verify the nature of the connection you have, then it could be harmful. • It’s the bond and relationship that helps seal the deal faster not you are just connected on LinkedIn. So make time for coffee, meet them at more events, reconnect often if possible without being pushy or needy. • Personalize your engagement and reduce probability of rejection. There's no guarantee that people will be receptive to all your invitation to connect on LinkedIn, so don't get too down. However try to warm up connection before you connect by commenting on their post, sharing, liking, etc.
  • 27. CONNECTING VIA LINKEDIN • Connecting with others From your past requires warming up the connection with a clear message. How they should know you, and why reconnecting would be beneficial. • Connect with people not because of what they can do for you. Connect because you could grow with them on a personal or professional level with or without ROI . Seek constructive people. • If a connection ended badly let it go unless there’s a very good chance you can reconnect or save it. SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST • Whether to put a new connection under personal or professional. I once met a woman who I found very attractive and was trying to put her in the personal however there was some confusion and she’s in the professional zone now. So if possible engage “personal” outside of LinkedIn and clearly state that “You like them and want to get to know him / her on a personal level” • If you don't know the person and they don’t know you, and you just want their LinkedIn updates you can just follow them on LinkedIn instead. • People are so busy that they don’t have time for long bodies of messages. Keep intro to within five lines and have a clear complying reason to connect if they don’t know you.
  • 28. CONNECTING VIA LINKEDIN • Create trust, build authority, and build strategic partnership. • The potential that invites could be harmful or possibly leaving you vulnerable to virus, spy- ware or people phishing for your info by using fake profile, misleading links that lead to identical looking site is real. so try avoiding clicking links or connecting without variefy. • If you don't recognize the profile carefully check them out however still be extra cautious. • Make sure to run security programs on your devices and keep all security software updated. SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST • Always be looking at the email addresses, send from, spelling, subject, that could be misleading to believe it's from LinkedIn, FaceBook or other institutions like banks. • Whatever activity you have to perform always go direct to LinkedIn.com and make it has “Https://” or security. • Never give your sensitive info to anyone via any communication method unless you can verify them. Use your head and ask questions. • it's really possible for others to imitate your entire look and persona so be careful what you share online.
  • 29. CONNECTING VIA LINKEDIN • A big red flag is the sender has very few connections usually within single digits. • The profile is not complete – in fact, most sections are blank or only have a couple of sentences. • There are lots of misspellings. • By connecting to the wrong people you could end up giving legitimacy to people. SPONSOR: BJ MANNYST • If messages via LinkedIn gets spammy you can block the person and report them to LinkedIn. • Also checkout: How Founders Can Stay Safe Financially & Physically. http://mblog.bjmannyst.com/2017/09/ho w-founders-can-stay-safe-financially- physically.html
