COLLECTION OF SECONDARY
         DATA
SECONDARY DATA

 Secondary data is data collected by someone other
    than the user.
 Or Data that are already available i.e data which
have already been collected & analysed by someone
    else.
 Common sources of secondary data for social
science include surveys, organizational records and
data collected through qualitative methodologies or
    qualitative research.
Published and Unpublished Data

 Sec Data may either Published Data or
  Unpublished Data.
 In Published a)Various publication of
central, state govt b) Various publication of
  foreign govt c)journals d) Books magzines &
  newspapers e)Reports & publications of
  various associations connected with
  business & industry,banks,stock exchange
  etc.
Published and Unpublished Data

 Unpublished Data : Found in Diaries,
 Unpublished biographies &
 autobiographies ,Pvt organizations.
SECONDARY DATA
 Secondary data analysis saves time that would
otherwise be spent collecting data .
 particularly in the case of quantitative data, provides
larger and higher-quality databases than would be
unfeasible for any individual researcher to collect on
    their own.
 In addition to that, analysts of social and economic
change consider secondary data essential, since it is
impossible to conduct a new survey that can
    adequately capture past change and/or
    developments.
Characteristics of Sec Data

 Reliabilityof data: the reliability can be tested
  by finding out
1) Who collected the data
2) What are the sources
3) Were they collected by using proper
  methodss
4) At what time were they collected etc
Characteristics of Sec Data

 Suitabilityof data: The Data that are suitable
for one enquiry may not necessarily be found
  suitable in another enquiry.
 Hence , if the available data are found may
not necessarily be found to be unsuitable,
they should not be used by researcher.
Characteristics of Sec Data

 Adequacy of data: If the level of accuracy
achieved in data is found inadequate for the
purpose of the present enquiry then it should
not be used by the researcher.
