This document discusses the promise and challenges of using Web 2.0 technologies in K-12 education from the perspective of school district administrators. It finds that while administrators see the educational potential of Web 2.0 tools to engage students, most schools are struggling to develop policies and integrate these technologies effectively into teaching and learning. Barriers include concerns about student safety online, a lack of educator experience with Web 2.0, and challenges restructuring schools to leverage the collaborative nature of these tools. The reality is that Web 2.0 use remains limited to some pioneering classrooms rather than being fully incorporated into curricula.
