- #2: I’m going to show you 5 different ways to use a wiki successfully in your classroom.
- #3: Communication with parents is key. Parents can see what their children are doing by logging on to the wiki. They can also be kept up-to-date on important information and events. The wiki can replace those annoying and time consuming weekly parent newsletters.
- #4: How many times do you hear, “I forgot what the homework was.” With the wiki, this excuse is no longer valid. Students and parents can check what tonight’s homework is and also have sources to help. You might be thinking, “That sounds like a lot of work.” But once you have it set up, you can use it over and over again. You can also have students enter notes and homework on the wiki during class or free time.
- #5: Some students might be afraid to speak out in class, but feel more comfortable voicing their opinions on the computer. They also feel like they are socializing when they get to read everyone’s opinions about a book or lesson; whereas in class, they might not get to hear their best friend’s response because there is not enough time or they are too shy to say it in front of the entire class.
- #6: Students tend to work harder on projects when they know it will be displayed for the world to see. Also, parents can see what their child has done before it gets lost in their desk, backpack, or even thrown away.
- #7: I post websites I use in class on my wiki for students to use as a future resource, to explore some more, or to share with their parents. I love when students come in the next day and tell me more they have learned from the websites!
