This course begins with the overview of the evolution of cellular technologies and motivation for 5G followed by the discussion of key technical requirements for 5G. The 5G standardization timeline and use cases are also presented. The course then dives into the key enabling technologies for 5G, which include the air interface technologies (access stratum) and networking technologies (non-access stratum). Air interface technologies cover the millimeter wave, waveforms, multiple access, massive MIMO, full duplex, and network densification, while the networking technologies cover the network function virtualisation and software defined networking. The course ends with a peek into the business impact of 5G, 5G vision, and 5G initiatives around the world.
