The BASIC MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (BMP) is an interactive training program designed for organizations that need to
equip their first level managers with a broader management perspective, through an understanding of the basic management
principles and skills. It will teach the participants to understand the overall functional organization of the company, as well as
the cross-functional relationship among its units for an interactive approach to management.
The participants will experience the management process, and
be able to practice effective management skills through the
participative discussion method of learning. They will be
trained in analysis and problem solving. Their self-confidence
will be enhance through effective skills in communication and
presentation. The course also provides opportunities for
learning from the experience of other participants, through
discussion groups and exchange of ideas.

PROF. GASTON D. ORTIGAS is the Program Director of the Basic
Management Program and the Pepsi Cola Professor of Business
Management, and has been a full-time professor of AIM since
1986. His teaching assignments run across degree and executive
training programs mainly in the areas of Strategic Planning,
Entrepreneurship, Total Quality Management, Business Process
Reengineering, Electronic Commerce and Electronic Governance,
Operations Management and Critical Thinking. He also conducts
business games and simulations. Professor Ortigas’ present
action research is in the areas of sustainable entrepreneurship,
sustainable energy, cultural tourism, blended learning
management and electronic governance. Past action research
has been in the areas of development management, managing
arts and cultural institutions, electronic commerce and
knowledge management.
