- 3. The idea of the anointing comes from the Old Testament, it is physical and spiritual. Exodus 30—God gives Moses the instructions for making the anointing oil.
- 4. 22 Then the Lord said to Moses, 23 “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant calamus, 24 500 shekels of cassia— all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin of olive oil. 25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.
- 6. A shekel was about 2/5 ounce or 11 grams. A hin was about 4 quarts or 3.5 litres. A lot of dry material with less liquid, this was almost a paste!

- 9. 30: 23.a. ראׁש בׂשמים “the chief, superior, head aromatic spices.” The ingredients were of the best quality, rare and expensive.
- 10. Sacrifice is required to make the best anointing oil - time, energy, materials, money… To make the best we have to give the best, The Anointing is costly.
- 11. God paid an enormous price for us, he sent his Son. So, For our anointing the price has been paid.
- 12. We all have an anointing…but there is more! A price we must pay to take hold of the promises of God…
- 13. Christ in Gethsemane, Matt 26: 39 “…he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
- 14. 1 Cor 6: 19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your bodies.
