The future of education increasingly involves online and e-learning opportunities. Enrollment in online courses rose by almost 1 million students from 2009 to 2010, with over 5.6 million students enrolled in online courses. While traditional teachers may fear transitioning to online teaching due to a lack of technical skills or an unfamiliar learning curve, there are many resources available to help overcome these challenges. Effective online instructors embrace change, are willing to learn new skills, and break out of their comfort zone to understand new technologies and styles of teaching. Developing rich learning activities, facilitating collaborative discussions, and providing feedback are among the essential elements of high-quality online course design and instruction.
