ASSURE Method
Analyze Learners
General Characteristics:
Learners are first grade, special-ed students. The class is made up of 10 boys and 7 girls where
70% are white, 20% African-American, and 10% Latino. 7 of the students have attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder.
State Objectives
Students will recite the months of the year in the correct order as well as which months are in
which season by the end of the school year be with 85% accuracy.
Select Method, Media, and Material
Methods:
The teacher will begin with a brief overview of the months of the year and then proceed to listen
to a months of the year song. After listening to the song the first time, students will listen a
second time while also singing along. Subsequently, students will breakup into groups of 2-3 and
will be given cards with the name of each month on them and draw an animal on each one to
help them remember each month.
Media:
Students will listen to a months of the year song.
Material:
The teacher will utilize a computer and a projector, and the students will use paper and use
drawing utensils.
Utilize Media and Materials
Teacher will use a computer and projector to show the video to the students. Afterwards, each
student will receive cards with the name of each month and in groups they will draw an animal
for each month.
Require Learner Participation
Upon the second viewing of the video, students will sing a long to the months of the year. After
listening to the months of the year song, students will break up into groups of 2-3 to come up
with animals to help them to remember each month.
Evaluate and Revise
Learner Evaluation
By the end of the school year, each student will be able to recite the months of the year with
100% accuracy.
