Techniques (1) Card Decks
https://www.aace.org/review/show-me-your-cards-design-decks-in-edtech/
• “What if it had to cost a million dollars to
create?,” “What if it had to be less than 100
dollar?,”
• “What if the space was the size of an
airport?,” “What if the space was the size of
one small room?,”
• “What would change in one day?”, “What
would change in 10 years?”,
• “How would it work for one person?” “How
would it work for 1000 people?”

Techniques (4) Crazy Eight
• Take a sheet of paper, fold, fold it again, and again.
• You have 8 minutes total to draw eight sketches, one in each panel.
• Turn over, repeat.
• Share if you wish.
• Particularly useful for mobile interfaces,
progressions, key features, segments,
details, flow.
o We’ll have ideas!
o Elevator pitch: One group presents their
problem/ domain, their stakeholders, and (if
applicable) their initial design idea in 5
minutes or less
o Everybody brainstorms ideas for this group
(10 minutes) using a version of Crazy Eight
o Repeat 5x
IDEATE with Crazy Eights! (15 minutes
per group)
CrazyEight Version1 (freeformideas)
• Crazy 8: Take a sheet of paper, fold, fold it again, and again, and again.
• Listen to the elevator pitch.
• You have 8 minutes total, one minute for each panel.
• Panel 1: What is the problem?
• Panel 2: Who are the stakeholders?
• Panel 3: What are barriers to finding solutions?
• Panel 4: What is the potential for positive change?
• Panel 5-8: Your ideas (free form)
• Turn over the page, and select a favorite or synthesize (1 minutes)
• Write a message of encouragement to the group, and sign with your name (1
minute)
Elevatorpitch: present
your problem/
domain,the
stakeholders, and(if
applicable)your initial
design idea
What is the problem?
In your own words,
describethe problem
that this group is
addressing.
Whoare the
stakeholders? List all
the people you can
thinkof.
What are the
barriers? Why is this
difficult toovercome
this problem?
What is the potential
for change?What is
the best thingthat
can happen?
Note down or

will work for 1000 people.

o June 2019: Design thinking
workshop at Muenster University of
Applied Sciences (Germany)
o Duration: 1.5 days, additional
preparation tasks
o Workshop theme: Ideas for new
learning spaces (day 1) and
curricular innovation with agile
techniques (day 2)
o Participants: 17 Students
o Location: Innovation Lab
Learning Spaces & Agile Curricula

Room(s) for Improvement
Redesigning Learning Spaces
A total of eight teams derived 15 different solutions – one team
decided to merge their ideas and collaborate instead of developing
individual prototypes.
o Activity: Design an AUW classroom so it
works well for design thinking (or another
active learning approach) - Three groups –
mix up!
o 20 minutes to design
o 5 minutes to present
Over to you: What room at AUW would
you like to redesign?
