The four basic functions of management are:

Managers play a number of roles that fall in 3 main categories: 
▪Managers perform ceremonial obligations; 
▪Managers provide leadership to employees; 
▪Managers act as a liaison to groups and individuals 
▪Managers spend a fair amount of time gathering information and delevering it to employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders; 
▪Managers use the information they gather to encourage innovation 
▪Managers decide how the organizational resources will be used to meet planned objectives

▪Strategic plans outline the firm’s low-range (2-5 years) organizational goals and actions
