Final exam
* The schedule and the content is subject to amendment by the instructor during the semester. It is the student’s responsibility to remain informed about changes and adjustments announced during the semester.
Title: A day in the life of ….
Guidelines: Write 3-5 pages about a day in the life of a company employee that has at least two people in his/her subordination (a management position in the company: line manager, middle manager or general manager).
The story should be inspired by a real life event and it has to describe a crisis and the way in which the person goes about solving it. As sources of information please use the materials discussed during the courses and seminars, information taken from people working in organizations (acquaintances of yours), interviews and stories from business magazines.
The main goal of the project is to prove that:
1. You have understood the inner workings of a business
2. You can make connections between events, analyze causes and effects and make effective and efficient decisions. (Your character doesn’t have to make a good decision, but in this case you have to end by telling us what should really have happened to obtain a good result.)
3. Understand the responsibilities of a manager and his/her prerogatives
In reading these stories I will be looking for:
1. A proper use of English.
2. A proper use of keywords and theories discussed during seminars and courses.
3. A logical flow of events which goes from crisis to resolution.
4. A certain amount of complexity and details in the text.
