Boolean operators like AND, OR, and NOT can be used to combine search terms and connect keywords to narrow, broaden, or exclude search results in databases. Truncation allows searching for various word endings by entering the root word followed by a truncation symbol, returning results that include any ending of that root word to retrieve more results. Common truncation symbols are asterisk, exclamation mark, question mark, and hashtag, with the symbol varying by individual database.
