CAREER AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT What is career? • A person’s course or progress through life. • It also pertains to his occupational or profession that usually involves special training or formal education and is considered to be a person’s lifework. What is career development? • Career development is an ongoing process of gaining knowledge and improving skills that will help an individual to establish a career plan, improve output in quality and quantity.
- 3. WHY CAREER DEVELOPMENT? Today’s Generation of Students……. Never plan for the future Follow the crowd Choose by influence of others Accept the parent’s verdict(decision) by force Get tempted by current trends Jump into any career Lack motivation Fail to ‘’discover their lives’’ Live in a fantasy world
- 4. CURRENT TRENDS Focus is lost Effort to increase quantity Survival of the fittest Less influence by parents, teachers, etc Increasing Dropouts Checking quality in products such as food and clothing but not education Increasing competition Aimless process
- 5. WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE? Students themselves. Parents - most of them. Teachers - not every body. Schools & Colleges – majority of them. Society Government. People who have knowledge. People who achieved success but forgot others. People who can influence others for good.

- 8. WHY SELECT A CAREER? We have been created unique. (eg. Fingerprint). We are born only once. We spend almost 40 years on our work. A total over 80,000 hours , we work. Now ask yourself how you will make the best of these 80,000 hours.

How can I learn more about informational interviews, job shadowing, exploratory internships, service learning, civic honors, or student organizations to gain firsthand experience?

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Eligibility: As per Instructions of Department of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh wide letter no .: EDN-A-Ka(9)-2/2012-Loose, Minimum Eligibility Criteria for admissions in Various UG Level Professional/technical courses is the candidate should have either 60% or ‘B’ Grade or equivalent from a recognized board/University (5% relaxation for SC/ST candidates) on the merit basis with any one of the following criteria 1. Where there is a National Common Entrance Tests all admissions would be on the basis of such an exam. 2. In absence of National Common Entrance Tests IEC University will conduct entrance test and qualified student will be allowed to take admission. Reservation: The students from BPL families and SC, ST, Backward Class, Handicapped are advised by the state government for admissions as per Himachal Government Rules. Also 25% seats for the admission to each course shall be eligible for students who are bonafide Himachalis
