Chapter I The Basics
What is Anatomy? The Study of the Body Body Parts Shape of the Body Structure of the Body Example : GROSS ANATOMY The Study of Large Structures, usually done on a cadaver
What is Physiology? The Study of HOW body parts WORK and FUNCTION. Types of Physiology: CARDIAC PHYSIOLOGY: how the Heart Functions MUSCLE PHYSIOLOGY: how Muscles Functions
Anatomy + Physiology Form + Function What is IT + What it DOES Hand and Hand relationship
Levels of Structural Organization Atoms Cells Tissues Organs Organ Systems ORGANISM
Organ Systems Integumentary = Skin Skeletal = Bones Muscular = Muscles Nervous = Brain, Spine, Nerves and Receptors Endocrine = Glands Cardiovascular = Heart and Blood Vessels Lymphatic = Lymph Nodes and Lymph Vessels Respiratory = Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Trachea and Lungs
Organ Systems cont. Digestive = Esophagus, Stomach, Small/Large Intestine, Rectum and Anus Urinary = Kidneys, Ureters, Bladder and Urethra Reproductive (Male) = Testis, Prostate, Vas Deferens Penis and Scrotum Reproductive (Female) = Mammary Glands, Ovaries, Uterine Tubes, Uterus and Vagina
So how to remember all these? R.U.N S.L.I.M.E.D
Things Necessary for Life Boundaries = something that separates the outside from the inside of the organism Movement = for getting food and causing things in the body to move like blood in your veins Responsiveness = reactions to stimuli Digestion = breaking down food into useful energy to be used Metabolism = all chemical reactions in the body Excretion = getting rid of waste from the body
Things Necessary for Life cont. Reproduction = the ability to produce OFFSPRING Growth = To increase in size. Typically by increasing the number of cells.
How do I remember all these? M.R. B.G. D.R.E.M.
So lets see what you learned What is the level of Structural organization that comes BEFORE this???

What is the Easy way of remembering all the organ systems? R.U.N. S.L.I.M.E.D. What does it mean?
