This chapter discusses the concept of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the misconceptions around information and communication. It addresses two key misconceptions: 1) That information is derived from processing or refining data, and 2) That communication involves information flowing from sender to receiver through channels. The chapter argues that these views are flawed and do not accurately capture how humans interact with and use information. It suggests the role of the CIO should be to manage how humans use information in organizations, especially given the increased role of information and communications technology.
