Character Profiles
Luke
 Luke will be the main focus in the soap opera trailer. The
trailer will begin with him walking out of a Police station as
he has had to do time because he has been doing drugs and
selling them. Luke will be played by Robert Henderson. We
picked Robert as he could fit the stereotype of a roughed up
chav if his costume changes to fit the stereotype.
Outer Presence - Luke
 Mise-en-ecene elements such as Luke's hair and costume will be suited to
his stereotype of a bad boy. Luke will have a top knot hair style which will
help to show that he is not a stereotypical good guy. He will wear some jeans
(black) (preferably ripped) with a t-shirt and a grey hoodie this will help to
connote that he is a dark character who may cause some sort of trouble. He
will look rough to connote to the audience that he is a troubled character and
is rough and someone who you wouldn't want to mess with. He will also
wear tracksuits which is a stereotype of a chav. Luke will need to look almost
thuggish to fit the character stereotype.
Inner Presence - Luke
 Luke although he comes across as a tough guy who
doesn't care about anything inside he actually cares. He
cares for one person mainly which is his Girlfriend Sian
who is the reason that he decides to stop doing drugs.
 Luke will be fighting a struggling battle with himself as
he doesn't want to go back to his old ways but with the
temptation being there he struggles to cope, with
everything going on around him.
 Luke comes across as rude and arrogant but he is actually
deep down very caring and sensitive and will do whatever
it takes for his family and the ones he loves.
 Luke is a recovering alcoholic and drug user.
Context - Luke
 Luke lives in a run down house with his parents he hopes to
move out soon so that he can be with his Girlfriend Sian. He
lives off of his parents as he doesn't have a job since he had to
go in and do some time. He wants to get a job again so that he
can afford to live on his own as he doesn't want his parents to
care for him for all his life. He has recently come out of prison
for serving time as he was caught in the possession of drugs,
and was also growing some. Thus when he returns to the
street people are apprehensive of him actually returning
because they know what he has done.
 Luke is 19 years old.
 He would be in the socio-economic grouping of D (based on
his parents) as both of his parents are semi and unskilled
manual workers. His psychographic grouping would be the
struggler as he could be perceived as the loser or victim.
Sian
 Sian will have a main role in the trailer as she will be shown to
have a relationship with both David and Luke. We will also see
her find out that she is pregnant. We have decided to cast Sarah
Taylor as Sian as she fits the look of Sian. She will also need to
be able to show the stereotype of a chav and we feel that Sarah
will be able to do this as she takes drama at A-Level.
Outer Presence - Sian
 Sian will wear very casual clothes which aren't that expensive to show
her social class of being working class. Sian won't look as scruffy as
some of the other characters. She will wear a white strap t-shirt with a
black jacket she will wear blue skinny jeans and will wear boots. The
use of Sian wearing casual clothes will help to show that she is not a
vein person and will wear what she wants to, she isn't concerned with
looking perfect.
 Sian will be petite and fair haired.
Inner Presence - Sian
 Sian’s inner presence is that she is actually a very
weak and fragile person. She wants someone to
always be there for her so when Luke is arrested she
doesn’t know what to do with herself. She is also a
very conscious person so she knows that the mistake
she made by sleeping with her ex boyfriend was a
bad decision and it is eating away ate her because
she can’t tell Luke. Sian is also very scared she
doesn’t know how she is gong to be a mother when
she can barely keep herself above water.
Context - Sian
 Sian has just finished school and is now doing a beauty course at her
local college. She lives with her mum as her dad died when she was
7 years old. Sian wants to move out of her house with her mum and
stay with Luke in their own place. She doesn't’t get along with Diane
which results in her not being able to stay at Luke’s place.
 Sian Is 17 years old. She could be considered as fashionable to an
extent.
 Her socio-economic grouping would be D as her Mum is a semi-
unskilled manual worker. Her psychographic grouping would be the
aspirer as she is concerned more with how other perceive her.
David
 David will be seen in the soap opera to be having an affair with his ex
girlfriend Sian. David will be played by David Perkins, we feel that he will
be able to fit this character as he fits the representation theory set by Dyer
as David legitimizes inequalities between characters as he shows that
people on benefits are lower compared to other characters such as Diane
who is not on benefits and is higher up then David. The audience will also
be able to quickly identify David as a chav through mise-en-scene elements
such as his costume.
Outer Presence - David
 David will support the stereotype of a chav as he will wear clothes
which conform to that stereotype. This will help the audience to
recognize his character type. David will not come across as rough
as what Luke will this is because we want to show that not all
chavs as are rough as they are stereotyped to be. David will wear
typical clothing such as tracksuits which will help to connote to
the audience that he is a chav. David will have a rough look
through his costume but we want him to have a perfect quiff so
that he does not conform to the full stereotype.
Inner Presence - David
 David is a strong character and this shows when he will
fight to get what he wants.
 He has always been jealous of the fact that Luke and Sian
are together as he regrets breaking up with her. He has a
hidden jealousy and wants to take any opportunity he
can to get Sian back.
 David although he comes across as an arrogant character
he actually is sensitive and doesn’t want to have what he
wants taken away from him.
Context - David
 David is 19 years old. He is Luke’s mate and they have known
each other for years.
 He is a heavy alcohol and junk food consumer and spends
most of his money on alcohol and drugs.
 His socio-economic grouping would be E (based on his
parents) as his parents are unemployed and are living off of
benefits. His psychographic grouping would be the struggler
as he doesn’t have stability in his life and people may see him
as a victim or loser because of the fact that his parents are
living off of benefits.
Charlie
 Charlie is Luke’s younger sister she will be featured in the trailer as we
will see her adjusting to her brother coming back out of prison. We will
also see Charlie struggle with her sexuality as she is a lesbian. Charlie
will be played by Charlotte Tubb who we feel will be able to play this
character as she fits the stereotype of a lesbian through her appearance.
Charlie – Outer Presence
 Charlie will need to come across as the stereotypical
lesbian with a slightly gothic style we will achieve this
through the mise-en-scene elements with her clothes.
She will wear darker clothes to show that she does not
wear the stereotypical pretty girls clothes so that she
can fit in.
Charlie – Inner presence
 Charlie feels like she doesn’t get any of her parents attention.
Before her brother going into prison she was ignored in the
household in her parents eyes Luke was perfect and Charlie
was just weird with her piercings and dark clothing style.
However when her brother got done for drugs she then had
her parents full attention and was the number one child. She
is also confused about her sexual orientation no-one in her
family has ever been ‘gay’ and Charlie is scared to come out to
parents because she doesn’t want to be out casted again when
she has just gained her parents love.

brother going into prison she was ignored in the household in her parents
eyes Luke was perfect and Charlie was just weird with her piercings and

to be out casted again when she has just gained her parents love.
 Charlie is 17 years old. She is petite and has short hair, she is fashionable
and wears some of the high street brands.
 She would be in the socio-economic grouping of D (based on her parents)
as both of her parents are semi and unskilled manual workers. Her
psychographic grouping would be the explorer as she is always
experimenting with things whether that be her hair or her clothes.
