Charting My
Perspectives

Perspective 1:
Homework
One of my original
perspectives was that
homework needs to be
kept at a minimum.

Perspective 1: Homework
Too much homework places an unnecessary amount of
stress on students. This can have negative health
outcomes and takes away from family time at home.
http://club.chicacircle.com/5-tips-to-relieve-homework-
stress/
Perspective 1:
Homework  My perspective was
confirmed when I was
grading homework with my
teacher in my placement
class and she just gave
everyone a star on the top
of the homework. She did
not actually check the work
and grade it. This is not truly
benefitting the students
because they are not able
to learn from their mistakes.
cation.com/clipart/clip/100
-4c.html
Perspective 1: Homework
 I still believe homework is
necessary, but the
amount it is given is
sometimes excessive and
ends up more harmful
than helpful to the
students. It depends on
what class and how old
the students are, but
giving out homework
every other day instead
of every day might be a
good solution.

calendar.net/January-
2013.html
Perspective 2: Homeschooling
Another one of my initial
perspectives was about
homeschooling. In the
beginning of the semester I
was opposed to
homeschooling because I
felt as though students
would miss out on learning
crucial social skills

Perspective 2: Homeschooling
 After discussing homeschooling in class and researching it for my scoop it
account I learned that my original concern about homeschooling was not
true. Children who are being homeschooled are able to develop strong
social skills by interacting in the real world as well as interacting with other
homeschoolers.
socialized.html
Perspective 3: Testing
 The idea that
standardized testing
should be kept to a
minimum was another
one of my initial
perspectives.
Standardized tests are
an unreliable
measurement of
student achievement.
or.org/tips-on-getting-
high-score-for-
standardized-test/
Perspective 3: Testing
 My perspective was confirmed when I saw how stressed out
my placement teacher was prior to the MSAs. She had to
spend weeks before the exam preparing her students. This
takes away from other material that could be taught
because the teacher was forced to teach to the test.
Perspective 3: Testing
 Standardized
testing also put an
excessive amount
of stress on the
students at such a
young age. It was
especially difficult
for the English
Language learners
in the class.
onablebambino.co
m/2011/09/03/make
-math-less-stressful/
Perspective 3:
Testing
 By the end of this class, I
believe standardized
testing needs to be kept
at a minimum. It does not
provide a clear
representation of the
student’s success and
accomplishments and it
places too much stress on
teachers and students.
Teachers feel pressure to
teach to the test because
if their test scores are not
up to par they will not
receive as much funding.
