Audience Characteristics
My client’s audience are predominantly farmers and homeowners with large areas of land in
north Yorkshire. I felt as though eco-friendly language and imagery would be effective at
possibly choosing to use my client over someone else with similar skills. This is why I chose to
go with the design that I ended up with as the final appearance. Besides my client I have
directly shown a small number of people the client work, I did get some great feedback and
complete positivity from them. The best most unbiased way to get feedback would have
been to put out a survey, but that could take a long while to actually get enough
results/responses. I feel that my work appeals to them through its content as well. I decided
to add in some pros and cons of dry-stone walls, as this is my client main attraction and a
large part of his employment. I wanted possible clients of his to know if it was going to be for
them or not, I think I well informed and therefore confident consumer/client is a happy
client, I know that My client wants his clients to be pleased with his work and be informed on
what they were buying. I think that because of this the pros and cons of a product are a very
appealing aspect to his audience.
Design
I figured that based on the audience my client has that only a few colour pallets/scheme
would work to the best suitability. As I wanted to go for the eco-friendly themed appearance
to it all. In addition using the same pallet/scheme meant they had a sort of identity. This I
think is crucial for any business, in todays world anyway, as it makes the business appear as
more processional and together. My hope was that the colours green and cream would send
the eco-friendly message, I think the font choice for my client’s name helps to push that
message and the aesthetic of professionalism. I decided to use the same images as my client
had on his previous website, as they were great shots of his work and taking my own of his
work would have added difficulties to the production. I didn't use many images, I probably
should have, but I knew there wasn’t many to choice from anyway, I knew I needed to rely on
a more text reliant format of website, hence the final version.
Client
When I first set out my client wanted me to just make a new website for his business,
and make a new business card. As of the final interaction with him, he said he was
pleased with my work, as “all very impressive work”. I am glad I could help mu client,
as I don’t think he will change it for a log while, I wanted it to be something that he
could leave and have it work just fine. In the end I made the website, business card
design, Instagram account and Pinterest account. I'm hoping that his new presence on
social media should open him up to new customers.
Learning
This project has let me develop my skills at a few things, like idea development and
production. I feel more confident putting ideas together and then developing that idea
into something that could actually work. As for production, I feel as though I can stick
to the initial concept better than before, and make the production fit that idea better
as well. I do think I played it too safe though, I should have tested out other, more
adventurous, ideas. That way I could have learned more in the process. I think I would
want to try and create more products IN the space of the same project, hopefully I will
be able to do this in for the FMP. This project taught me that passion brings
motivation and ease to a production, I aim to incorporate this into my FMP, hopefully
it will help me to not burn out half way through the 17 weeks. I reckon this project
was good, as I was able to create an aesthetic feel that I am proud of, and help the
client out. This project also helped me to further develop my communication skills to a
business, this is a large part of most solo/freelance work in the creative-production
industry. Hopefully what I have learnt will aid me in future productions/projects.
