- 1. Common Computer Components
- 2. CPU This processes data that is received, and comes out with an outcome. For example, if 2 + 2 was put in, it would come out with 4. The speed of a CPU is measured in Mega hurtz. Without it, the computer will be limited to almost nothing, coming up with an error on the screen.
- 3. Hard Drive This stores and retrieves computer data and files. Constructed with a large rotating disk, with a magnetic rod that writes data to it. Without it, you cannot access or save files.
- 4. Power Supply This supplies power to different parts of a computer through it’s different cables (to motherboard, hard drive, optical drive etc.). The box though, is to convert alternating current to direct current. Without it, the computer would just not be able to turn on
- 5. RAM/ROM ROM is memory that cannot be edited or modified, it can only be read. It can be taken out and put back in a computer. RAM is memory that can be edited and modified, and is accessed randomly. Unlike ROM, It can’t be taken out and put back in a computer.
- 6. Motherboard Not specifically a component, but more like the main circuit board for the computer, connecting different devices together. It holds the CPU, adapter cards, BIOS, RAM and ROM.
