Cooperation needs on Field Operational Tests

- 4. There is a strong motivation to carry out FOTs in Europe and in other parts of the world. Motivation to improve mobility… Safe mobility 38 000 deaths on the roads in the EU according to 2008 statistics. Cleaner mobility EC policy framework has set a target o 20% reduction of greenhouse gases by 2020 … and 20% increase in energy efficiency. And we believe that the deployment of ITS solutions is a step towards the improvement of Mobility. 4
- 5. So what has been done to achieve deployment? This next chart will demonstrate how FOTs fit into a broader deployment of ITS technologies. The results from FOTs support the preparation of policy decisions which in turn will lead to deployment. Projects and initiatives at Pan-European level funded by the EC . Below the dotted line are new EC funded activities which have recently started. In the center is FOT-Net gathering inputs from the FOTs and sharing them with the broader FOT community and also promoting the FOT methodology. 5
- 6. FOTs are often multi-stakeholder activities with their own expectations. But we can say that the main consumers of FOTs are policy makers and Business leaders. Why? 6
- 7. So previous slides have shown that there are many FOT activities in Europe and that a supporting activity is useful tor bring all these activities together under one umbrella. This next chart illustrates another way of how FOT-Net is placed in the broader FOT landscape. FOT-Net support action funded by the European Commission, DG Information Society and Media. Activities will last until 2013. We see the FOT landscape Three levels: Thematic level – FOT programme addresses different fields of applications Geographic – FOTs developed at national, european and global levels Time – continuous support, bridging between the FESTA methodology outputs and the FOT activities. FOT-Net is there to serve as networking platform between these different levels. To PROMOTE, SHARE, INFORM AND SERVE AS A PLACE FOR 7 DISCUSSION.
- 8. FOTs: what is happening? Numerous FOTs testing different types of applications in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. There is an opportunity to learn from all these but clearly there is a need for coordination of all the available information One of the ways we address the cooperation needs is to bring all information available under one place the FOT-Wiki.
