Course Objectives • To expose students to key ideas and issues in OB that influence the way
people behave in organisational setting.
• To develop competencies of analysing behavioural issues in the work
environment
• To appreciate how behaviour differs between individuals, how it
changes in groups, and how organisational systems influence behaviour.
• To explore the relevance of Islamic concepts and principles in OB
issues

Course Synopsis This course is designed to understand the dynamics of human behaviour in
the work context. As human beings are the most important resource for any
organisation, understanding the determinants of their work behaviour from
different levels is more than necessary for a manager. The levels of
analysis consist of individual, group, and the organisational system. Major
topics included in this course are: values, personality, perception, learning,
emotion, attitude, and motivation as individual determinants of
organisational behaviour. The group and organisational determinants
include: decision making process, team dynamics, communication,
leadership, power and politics, and organisational change.

Learning Outcomes After completing this subject it is expected that you will be able to:

1. Distinguish between commonsense and scientific explanation of
organisational behaviour as well as synthesise the knowledge from
Islamic perspective.
2. Use the concepts, theories and models to understand the dynamics of
human behaviour in the workplace.
3. Develop attitude for objective analysis of organisational issues.
4. Appraise oneself and others with respect to behavioural concepts
such as perception, personality, values, attitude, motivation and
communication.
5. Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills.
