- 1. Where you should be up to…… The vast majority of you collected at least some of your data over Christmas. You need to work on completing two sections of your written report, The Background (Introduction) and The Method .
- 2. Final deadline for handing in your completed written up project……. Friday 22nd January This will then be checked for you and feedback given to enable you to make any necessary changes. You will get your checked work back for alterations within 3 weeks, by 12 th February. Amendments can be made over Reading Week.

- 5. Introduction Use the guidelines on page 5 of your coursework guide. Be sure to include: Background to general area of the study (Atkinson & Shiffrin’s model of memory) Terminology and concepts used in this area Previous research that relates to your experiment and how it relates (pages 8 & 9 in your guide) Remember you must not copy work from books or the internet this is called plagiarism and can result in you being disqualified from taking the exam or other exams. It is also dealt with very seriously by the college.
- 6. Hypothesis and Research Aims You need to state your aim , this is the general idea of what your investigation is going to study. You need to state your hypothesis which is the statement of what you expect to happen in your investigation. You should also state the independent variable and the dependent variable .
- 8. Method In this section you describe exactly how you carried out your investigation. Your description of what you did should be clear and detailed enough for someone else to read it and be able to replicate (repeat) your investigation exactly. The method section should be divided into four sections:
- 9. Design Identify the research method you used and say why you chose that particular method. State the experimental design used, and why it was the most appropriate. Clearly identify the IV and the DV and show how they were measured or manipulated. Also mention any controlled variables, i.e. how did you control for confounding variables?
- 10. Participants Identify the type of sampling method used, why is it this type of sampling? How participants were gathered. Details of the participants , such as the number of participants, gender, age group and occupation.
- 11. Materials Describe any materials , equipment or apparatus used, e.g. tape recorder, word list, pictures. Explain why they were chosen, how answers to any questions were marked and so on. If diagrams or sketches are used give useful detail here and then attach these to the appendices. Copies of questionnaires or observation schedules should also be attached to the appendix, along with any marking or scoring system if relevant.
- 12. Procedure Describe step by step how the investigation was carried out . You should also include: The way you approached your participants The instructions you gave your participants Any time limits set or used How the scoring of any test or questionnaire is carried out The location and time of the investigation How confounding variables were controlled Any ethical points you had to consider and explain how you addressed them.
- 13. Results This is the section where you present a summary of the the data that you collected. Add a visual display, like a bar chart. Add a table showing mean, median, mode and range. Say what your finding were and do the results support your hypothesis
- 14. Conclusion Read page 7 of your coursework guide. Answer all of the questions on page 7
