What is Trust?
 Trust isbelievingthat the person(s) who istrusted will do what is
expected.
Why is it important?
 In the timeless wisdom of Theodore Roosevelt “Character, in the
long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of
nations alike.”
 A key aspect of building integrity and character is being a
trustworthy Friend, Colleague, Father, Husband, Business
Associate, Human being etc.
 Trust (whose synonyms are faith, belief, hope, conviction,
confidence, expectation, dependence, reliance) is as critical in our
private relationships asin our business and success endeavours.
 It is as critical when dealing with small matters as well as big
matters.
 A critical aspect of Trust is the fact that, like respect, it cannot be
commanded but must be earned. It must be earned by being
cautious in how we relate with others both in our words and
actions aswell as in their presence and absence.
Nature ofTrust
Honesty and Integrity
 Lying is a way to maximize the short term gain. Lying also the
best w a y to maximize your gain if everybody around you is
expected to lie.
 However, honesty and reputation take time to build but
maximize the longterm "happiness".
 Think of it in terms of the prisoners dilemma. If it's a one time
thing the best option is to rat on your friend and give info to the
police. However, if it is a reoccurring event the optimal choose is
to stick together and hope they return the favor. That is unless
your partners continually rat on you first, then you become the
nark.
 That is, honesty is the best policy in the long run only if you
hang on with those that return the favor. Honest people will
be able to cooperate, hence get much more done. But if you
expect that those others are going to be lying to you, you
should return in kind.
