Solution Overview
  High Level Solution Description:
•  DBear EMR, the iPad App serves as an individual electronic
medical record, which is aimed to provide a solution to
improve data management with chronic diseases,
especially type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The app has the
following features:
•  1) Integration of toy based reinforcement of conventional
diabetes care management
•  2) Facilitation of patient compliance with insulin pumps and
glucose monitor
•  3) Promotion of patient education related to diabetes and
other chronic diseases

Usability and Design
Patients
1) Toy based reinforcement
There is a glucose meter in the backpack of a toy bear. With the
meter, patient is able to measure and monitor his/her glucose
level. The toy bear show glucose information and other information
on the front screen. In addition, patient’s glucose record can be
uploaded to corresponding database of medications management
company automatically. Then, authorized doctors and toy bear
clients can check the data and other Allscripts clinical information
via this app.


2) Increase of patient compliance with insulin pumps and
glucose monitor
With glucose levels are maintained at satisfactory levels, the
sad bear in the program will become happy as the patient
keeps a healthier lifestyle. This helps patients, especially
children to comply with glucose measurements/ insulin pumps
and following treatment. Also, glucose measurement is
presented as “feeding” the bear- which makes the process
more fun- and increases compliance.


  3) Promotion of patient education concerned with diabetes
and other chronic diseases
Interacting with the app, patient can learn more about the
diseases and the health of themselves. Considerate
reminder and medication section design will help patients
to build confidence and take medicine on time.
