Speech
1. What is the main idea of the speech?
2. What are the details and reasons cited by the speaker that support his
main idea?
3. Was the idea clear and sensible? Does the speaker have natural pitch or
is it too high or unpleasant?
4. Did the speaker give importance to some words or sentences by
accenting them?
5. Did the changes in the speaker’s pitch and stress affect the meaning of
the selection?
DELIVERING A FORMAL SPEECH: A GUIDE WITH ACTIVITIES
Preparation Guidelines
1. Prepare a speech on a topic that you know really well.
1. TOPIC IDEAS – How to make friends?, How to recite poetry? How to study
effectively?, and etc.
2. Time your speech. Maximum delivery time is 2 minutes.
3. You can use visual aids in your presentation
Delivery Guidelines: Verbal
• Project your voice by speaking loud enough so that the people at
the back can hear your voice.
• Speak at a comfortable rate.
• Speak with clarity
• Avoid speaking in monotone
• Avoid bad vocal habits
Delivery Guidelines: Non-verbal
• Establish eye contact with audience.
• Be animated. Move around if necessary.
• Add emphasis to words to posture and gesture.
• Avoid distracting mannerism
Performance Task
1. Write your own speech based on your chosen topic. (30
minutes preparation). Write your draft in your notebook.
2. Memorize your speech at home.
3. Presentation time will be scheduled.
