This document summarizes the design, simulation, fabrication, and testing of a microstrip patch antenna for use in the L-band frequency range of 1-2 GHz. A rectangular patch antenna was designed, modeled in IE3D software using a coaxial feed technique, and optimized to achieve minimum return loss and maximum bandwidth. The simulated antenna dimensions were used to fabricate a prototype antenna. Testing of the fabricated antenna showed measured results closely matched the simulated performance, with return loss of -29.752 dB and voltage standing wave ratio of 1.0327 at the resonant frequency of 1.176 GHz, validating the design for use in the target frequency range.
