Detention - Script Development
- 1. DETENTION Scene 1: INT. CLASSROOM –DAY The protagonist (named Josh) miserably sits in the classroom facing the fierce looking teacher. The teacher minds his own business, calmly typing on his laptop, while the boy fiddles with his pencil and overall just looks miserably bored. Josh than secretly texts his friend that informs him of his whereabouts. Ben receives the text message as he stands in front of the school. Scene 2: EXT. ENTRANCE OF THE SCHOOL – DAY The receptionist picks up a phone that was ringing – “Chartwell international school how may I help you”. Ben sneaks in the school while the receptionist is on the phone. He crawls under the table so the receptionist can’t see him. And at the end of the desk in the corner he secretly and discretely grabs keys for the generator room and quickly leans on a wall then decides to send a message to Josh that he is in. Scene 3: INT. CLASSROOM –DAY Josh receives the text message, but the notification sound is loud enough for the teacher to notice, so the teacher stands up and asks “what is that” and furiously takes Josh’s phone away and places it on his desk. Scene 4: INT. IN THE SCHOOL –DAY Ben makes his way towards the generator room. He stands in front of it and unlocks it with one of the keys and finally enters the generator room and unplugs a cable that turns the internet off.
- 2. Scene 5: INT. CLASSROOM The teacher in the detention room realizes that there is no internet connection and tells Josh “don’t move I am coming back in a second”. Josh then takes the opportunity to grab his phone from the teacher’s desk and open and crawls out the window. However he unfortunately twists his foot on the landing and calls Ben and tells him that he has escaped, and that they will meet at the back of the school. Scene 6: EXT. SCHOOL BACKYARD Josh impatiently waits at the rendezvous point for Ben, when suddenly the backdoor opens and Josh hides behind it in fear. The person in sight appears to be Josh which gives him a sense of relieve. Josh – “oh my god you scared me” Ben – “sorry I was late, had to go to the bathroom” Josh – “are you kidding me” Ben – “ what’s that noise” Then they randomly start to hear loud stomping from a far which gives a sense of tension as they get a glance of the teacher. Scene 7: EXT. SCHOOL BACKYARD –THE CHASE A sound bridge is taken place at this point as intensive music plays in the background. The boys start running, Josh is struggling as he twisted his foot , the teacher is closing onto them as he screams “come back”. As they approach the back gate Ben helps Josh get up and over. AS Ben tries to climb over, the teacher catches up to him and gets a hold of him. Josh tries to pull Ben towards him whilst the teacher pulls Ben towards his direction. Ben eventually persuades Josh to let go and get the last slice of pie.
