The document describes the development and validation of a new student evaluation instrument for teaching at Thompson Rivers University's Faculty of Science. A committee reviewed research on effective dimensions of teaching and developed a 40-statement survey focusing on preparation, clarity, outcomes, interest, encouragement, and availability. The survey was field tested with over 300 students across 14 courses. Statements were revised based on focus groups and testing. The resulting survey incorporates dimensions shown to highly correlate with student achievement and learning.
