Objectives of this Session
• To create an awareness regarding Blogs
• To develop an understanding regarding various uses
of Blogs
• To develop an ability to write and post Blogs
Blog
• WEB + LOG = Blog (Online/ Digital Diary)
• 1997 – the first blogs appeared
• Now a new blog is created every 10 seconds .
• The term “Web Log "was invented by J. Barger in
1997.
• contains entries, or “posts”, displayed in reverse
chronological order- meaning last/latest one is
displayed first.
• The Act of creating/posting/maintaining a blog is
called ‘blogging’.
What is a Blog?
• A blog is a discussion which is published on World
Wide Web consisting of a number of posts on a
particular platform. The process of writing blogs is
termed as blogging. Blogging can be greatly used in
teaching learning situation. Teachers may use
blogging to communicate assignments and
announcements, sharing exercises and can create
public platform where students’ work can be
published. Edublogs, Blogger and WordPress are
free platforms for students and teachers
The Act of Blogging
• Posting a content on blog.
• Even posting comments on someone else’s blog is an act of
blogging.
• Post often contains text, images, video and links to other
websites.
• Readers can comment on posts, making it an interactive
experience.(akin to a real time face to face discussion.)
• Blogging is a way of expressing/sharing one’s thoughts,
ideas or opinions and experiences.
Blogs can be of many different things
• Personal diary
• News and information service
• Ongoing project report
• Photo gallery
• Sharing research findings.

Criteria for writing a Blog (AESA Guidelines)
• We will post entries that make an argument on public
policy issues of importance in extension irrespective
of our agreement with the author’s point of view.
• Blog entries should be between 1000 -1200 words.
They should be original contributions and not pieces
that have been published elsewhere.
Criteria for writing a Blog (AESA Guidelines)
• Please provide links for articles or studies referred to
in your piece.
• Blog entries should avoid personal attacks and undue
partisanship.
• We edit your submission lightly for clarity and
grammar. In all cases, we will have you review and
approve a final draft of the piece before posting.
Criteria for writing a Blog (AESA Guidelines)
• We will run a short disclaimer before guest posts
stating that the post reflects the opinions of the
author and not of AESA.
• Please include a title for your post and brief (20
words maximum) biographical or background
information that can appear in the introduction to
the post.
• Send your submission in an e-mail or Word document
to crispindia@gmail.com
Criteria for evaluating a Blog
• Is the title of the Blog self explanatory?
• Does the blog page depict purpose of the Blog?
• Does the Blog content depict the credentials of the Blog creator?
• Authority: Whether the other bloggers are treating the blogger as an expert on
that topic?
• Linkages: Do other blogs link to the blog under evaluation? This can be found out
by conducting a google search.
• Is the blog free from any kind of bias (can be identified by looking at the posts)?
• Does the blog contain list of links to other websites or blogs?
• Readability: Is the blog free from spelling mistakes and grammatical errors and is
readable?
• Presence of contradictory information: Is the content on the blog contradicting
the information found in other sources?
• Updated information: Updating of information means regular updation of the
information of the blog which is very important.
