    Metaphor
Learning Intentions


Students will understand what metaphors are
and how they can be used to develop deeper
understanding.
Success Criteria


Students will be able to create metaphors and
use them in lessons to link new concepts to
previous knowledge.
Build Commitment

The 'hook' that grabs
the attention of the
students.
The INPUT of the lesson in this case is a video
explaining metaphors

I will MODEL it with some visual examples

I will CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING using
questions.

I will hand out some cards with images and ask
students to create metaphors for their teaching
practice or for something they have learned
today.
Metaphors- that is, understanding one thing in
terms of something else. [..] metaphor is central

communication experiences that others do not

Some examples for subjects:
Science-immune system as army
History-'Camelot' and Kennedys
    English- 'Juliet is the sun'
     I.T.- the world wide web
   Business- bears and bulls
