This lesson plan introduces students to metaphors and how they can be used to develop deeper understanding. The lesson will have the teacher modeling metaphors using visual examples after showing a video explaining metaphors. Students will then practice creating their own metaphors by matching images to concepts they are learning about or have learned that day. The lesson aims to help students understand metaphors and be able to incorporate them into their own lessons to link new concepts to prior knowledge.

Direct Instruction Sample Lesson
- 1. Sample Lesson Plan: Metaphor
- 2. Learning Intentions Students will understand what metaphors are and how they can be used to develop deeper understanding.
- 3. Success Criteria Students will be able to create metaphors and use them in lessons to link new concepts to previous knowledge.
- 4. Build Commitment The 'hook' that grabs the attention of the students.
- 5. The INPUT of the lesson in this case is a video explaining metaphors I will MODEL it with some visual examples I will CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING using questions.
- 7. Guided Practice I will hand out some cards with images and ask students to create metaphors for their teaching practice or for something they have learned today.

- 11. Independent Practice This is the crucial part Students need to learn to use the new material in unfamiliar contexts I.e. can you use metaphors in your lessons to reinforce new concepts?
