Early registration of scholarly content with Crossref allows publishers to: 1) Provide persistent links to content before final publication to meet funder mandates and allow researchers to include works in applications. 2) Display an "intent to publish" statement when the DOI is registered to indicate the work will be published. 3) Replace the "intent to publish" statement with a link to the final published work once it is available.
