‘THE APPRENTICE’
EDITING SESSIONS
DRAFT #1
SESSION #1
Editing session 1.1
ARRANGING FOOTAGE
• To start with we had to import all of our filming from the SD card onto the desktop so we
could import them into Premiere PRO.
• Once we had then imported these into Premier PRO it was then the case of consulting our
storyboards and ordering the clips to get the correct order.
• This process involved chopping various clips as some of the clips ran over showing
irrelevant parts of filming. We chopped these from the original footage and deleted them
so we had the footage which we needed.
• When it came to uploading we still had missing scenes which meant there were clear
gaps in our first draft editing process. This caused us to halt on any transitions on scenes
which had no following scene. This will slow our editing down until we have filmed the
missing scenes.
• What we will do next is film the missing scenes and upload them so we can fill in the gaps
between scenes. This will then mean we will be able to add transitions and make sure the
sequence flows.
Editing session 1.1
TITLES
• Now that we have our scenes in order we can now focus on adding the title sequence in
the conventional order.
• When it came to adding titles it was imperative we selected a font which will look good
and work with our genre. The font which we decided to chose was Courier. This gave the
sequence bold writing and worked with our genre. The font looks enticing as it bold but
yet looks mysterious.
• To improve upon our current titles we will be changing the font colour from black to white
as well as the positioning. The black font can make it hard to read where as white will be
easier to read.
• The current positioning is too far too the edge, we will move the titles slightly away from
the border but not obstructing any important footage. We shall place this in areas where
there is nothing important on the screen.
Editing session 1.1
ADDING AND CHOPPING SOUNDTRACKS
• The final stage of this editing session was importing our soundtracks and then chopping
them to the right length.
• We imported our soundtrack from YouTube but found it was too long for our sequence.
This meant that we had to chop the soundtrack but we had to review the soundtrack to
make sure we used the bust part of the soundtrack which will add tension to our scene.
• We also had to lower the volume of some parts of the soundtrack when there was
dialogue in the scene. We had to make sure that the quieting of the volume sounded
natural and was gradual.
• There was some dispute over the soundtrack which we used as some found that it wasn't
adding enough tension. For the next editing session we will be reviewing other
soundtracks which may be better than the original one.
