Editing the wiki

- 2. Editing the Wiki You must create an account at Wikispaces to be able to edit the class wiki. Please do this today if you have not already.
- 3. Open two web pages Open geographywiki.wikispaces.com Open Google docs by clicking the links to Basic Geography Terms You can shift+click to get a separate page to open.
- 4. Basic Geography Terms Page Click Edit Notice the editor bar has appeared at the top of the page. It is simple, not many functions. We call this a visual editor. It is similar to Microsoft Word.
- 5. Basic Stuff Today: Lines and Words Find your terms in the vocabulary spreadsheet. Make sure they are spelled correctly, punctuated correctly, and have references if needed. Copy terms (control+C) from Google Docs and paste (control+V) into the wiki. Make sure there are lines separating each entry. Make it look nice: Bold the words with heading fonts (select term and click desired heading)
- 6. Beyond Lines and Words Any time after basic term and chapter one term entry may be used to put other features into the wiki for the different entries.
- 7. Beyond Lines and Words Link can link one word or phrase to another part of the wiki (we will link more later) File can attach all kinds of files. If you add files, be sure to preview before saving because wikispaces always adds the new file to the top of the page, not where your cursor is, you have to drag the image to the right spot.
- 8. Beyond Lines and Words Widget puts in more “things” Video, audio, calendars, spreadsheets, documents, polls, news feed, charts, slideshows, maps, and other HTML. Table can create tables in the wiki.
- 9. Today’s Assignment Put all of the Basic Geography Terms and the Chapter One Terms into the wiki. Any time left over: Clean up the wiki Add other files
