Project 3:
Pitch, Compose, and File for Publication (20%)
In this project, you will pitch two ideas and compose two deliverables to be filed with
editors for possible publication in a real online magazine or website. For each
deliverable, you will decide which online magazine or website you’ll pitch to.
The first deliverable will be a set of step-by-step slidecast instructions to help viewers
perform a specific task. A slidecast is a slideshow with voice-over narration. The course
assumes students do not have experience in creating a slidecast, and provides options
for how to create one using familiar tools or one of the free easy-to-use cloud
computing tools. The second deliverable will be a review. You may choose to review a
local (Moscow or Coeur d’Alene) business, event, or area (e.g., a hiking trail or local
attraction).
Learning Objectives. After completing this project, you should be able to:
 pitch ideas to editors to obtain approval to compose and file for publication,
 compose step-by-step slidecast instructions for anything you know how to do, and
provide the voice-over narrative using an effective presentation speaking style,
 compose an objective review of a local (Moscow or Coeur d’Alene) business, event,
or area that you have first-hand knowledge about.
.
Project Deliverables:
 Deliverable 1: Slidecast Video Instructions: of about six steps, 5 minutes or less,
and hosted by YouTube or Vimeo, submitted as a URL.
Audience/Purpose: viewers interested in performing a specific task.
plus
Pitch for Publication, about 150 words, submitted as a Word or PDF file.
Audience/Purpose: editors of an online magazine or website of your choice. The
purpose is to interest editors in publishing your slidecast.
 Deliverable 2: Review, about 750 words with images, submitted as a Word or PDF
File.
Audience/Purpose: readers interested in your review in order to try a local business,
activity, or event.
plus
Pitch for Publication, about 150 words, submitted as a Word or PDF file.
