IP PROTECTIONS reproduction, control over derivative works,distribution, public performance, &"moral rights" such as attribution DURATION Expires between 50 to 100 years after the creator’s death FAIR USE Using less than 10% of a work for Educational purposes is typically acceptable LIMITATIONS copyright protects only the original expression of ideas, ¬ the underlying ideas themselves

Plagiarism and Cheating Ethics in Online Learning Environments Plagiarism Copying the work of others is never acceptable, however, using proper quotes and citations in academic works is always strongly encouraged. Understanding how to properly cite sources is the key to managing this issue. Cheating The data shows that students self-report cheating at the same percentages face to face as they do in online environments however, there is a perception that technology is both the problem and the solution. READ THIS SOCIAL MEDIA Be certain that you know how your use of social media may impact your students’ privacy.

SOCIAL MEDIA and DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP-with great power comes great responsibility Keeping students’ safe on social media is more than understanding the data privacy policies, it means knowing where threats and predators may lurk on the internet Educate Parents! -Parents may not be aware of the potential dangers their children are exposed to and need your help. EYES OPEN! -Keep an eye out for suspicious behaviors when encouraging the use of technology in the classroom.
