Question 5
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?
 Before we planned our film, we found out who we would be aiming our film at –
target audience. As research we all individually looked at motorsport films such as
Furious 7 and Rush.
 As a group we did various different audience testing to see whether the right
audience would like different sections of our film. We did a variety of focus groups –
which can be found on my blog and a questionnaire to one of our fellow student to
get her opinion on the development of the film.
 Our film opening creates emotion for the main character, the audience is made to
feel bad for the actor and see what problems he has. During the rest of the film
these emotions will grow and the audience will see more of his story behind the
wheelchair. By the end of the opening we want the audience feel like a ‘friend’ to
the actor.
 I have carried out various different forms of research for our film, for example I
carried out the audience testing. One was done as a questionnaire, however more
was done as focus groups. We had different focus groups for different sections of
the film. For example we had a focus group for the music so we could see what
music they preferred for the film and what one suited our film better.
What would appeal to my target audience /
what would they want to see
 Any audience for a motorsport film would expect a variety of the things to
see, such as:
 Nice / well known cars
 Famous actor/actresses
 Famous location – known to cars
 Famous racetrack
 Sponsors from race companies/ cars
 Many things would appeal to motorsport film fans, such as:
 Seeing their favourite actor
 Famous cars etc
Our Film
 In our film there is some stereotypical features of a motorsport film. The
main actor is very determined to follow his dreams, no matter what gets in
your way. Which is stereotypical for a racer. The main actor is very relatable
as all he wants to do is reach his dreams but his world comes crashing
down with an accident that changed his life forever. We are hoping that by
the end of the film the audience will learn that people should never give
up and to stay positive no matter the circumstances.
Audience Pleasures
 I think our film will have two audience pleasures, these being:
 Emotional pleasure – This is when the film creates emotional responses that the
audience will enjoy. It normally motivates us to watch a film. In our film this will
happen with the flashbacks to his happy life compared to the sad lonely times.
It will make the audience feel sorry and bad for the main character. This is
probably the main audience pleasure for our film as it makes the audience
create a bond with the main character as they all (character and audience) go
through the same emotions.
 Visceral pleasure – This is when a film builds up a physical effect on the
audience. This would show in the flashbacks in our film . It would be when he is
driving and getting into the car. It will create the nerves that the main character
would have been feeling with the audience – this is emphasised with sound.
