Blended learning combines face-to-face instruction with online learning and resources. Research shows the basic model of blended learning is gaining popularity in higher education and schools in the US. Education providers are also shifting from solely online learning to incorporating blended approaches. There is a wide range within the definition of blended learning, from 30-79% of content delivered online. However, research specifically evaluating blended learning outcomes is still limited.

What's evident from the available research is that the basic model for blended learning (combining f2f sessions with online resources and/or a virtual community) is gaining traction in higher education and schools, especially in the US. It’s also true to say that education providers and organisations are starting to migrate from e-learning to blended.
