How many peer-reviewed journals are there in the world ? • There were about 28,100 active scholarly peer-reviewed journals in mid 2012, publishing 1.8–1.9 million articles a year. • Scopus database covers 20,874 journals from over 5,000 publishers • There are 5,000–10,000 journal publishers globally (95% publish only one or two journals.) • Three big publishers (Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley-Blackwell) have over 2,000 journals each. – STM Report
