Finite resources reflection
- 1. Finite Resources Reflection Global Inquiry: I learned that “finite” means it is limited. Some examples of finite resources include coal, wood, oil and gas. It is important to conserve fossil fuels, because they will run out, and they make air, water and land polluted. Some alternative energy sources are solar energy, nuclear energy and geothermal energy. While investigating the coal industry, the most interesting thing I learned was 40% of electricity comes from coal. Local Inquiry: During my Home Energy Audit, I discovered that lights are on when nobody is inside. So, I set goals turn off the light when nobody is inside the room. During our BISS Energy Audit, we discovered many problems, such as not using recycling bin. So, we set a goal to make classrooms recycle their paper. Taking Action: School Conversation Campaign It is important to reduce, reuse and recycle paper because if we don’t reuse, reduce and recycle, wood will run out. First we made a recycling bin. Then we told them how to use the recycling bin. Finally, we collected recycled papers. It was difficult to do a BISS Energy Audit, because we should go around the school and check. I enjoyed this action because we are recycling so it made me happy. If I took a different environmental action, I would like to reduce our electricity use. Environmental Music Video We use persuasive language techniques in our lyrics, such as repetition and rhetorical questions. I think the most persuasive line in the lyrics is “rhetorical question” because it make people say “yes”. While working on the movie, I learned about persuasive language. I enjoyed making this video because the filming was fun. If I did another music video, I would like to make about minecraft, because I think it will be fun and I like minecraft. What else? During this Finite Resource unit, I especially enjoyed making music video, because I never did it before and filming was fun. After this unit, I will continue to recycle the paper.
