Opening Day Announcements
When Do We Get to Look for
          Books?
The library is a busy – and big – place. Once we’re done with
our activity in the MMR, we’ll go to the Juvenile section.

                                            Note: Even though Ms.
                                            Kover rocks, let’s try not
                                            disturb her TOO much.
                                            She’s probably busy
                                            ordering some great
                                            books!
When Do We Get to Look for
        Books?
Occasionally, I may let you check out a book from the CATS
section upstairs. However, most of the books in the CATS
section are also in the Juvenile section!
Library Challenge #1
Your first library challenge this year is to memorize this web
site.

You can get to this web site from home or from school. Just
type it into your internet browser.

It’ll tell you whether we have a book you want and where
the book lives in our library!

Checking Out
If the line for checking out a book is really long, you may
check out with Ms. Shorter at the main desk on this floor.
Looking for Books
If you don’t need a new book, think of this as D.E.A.R time!
That means coming prepared with a D.E.A.R. book every
time you have library.
How Long Can I Check Out a
         Book?

You can check out a book for 2 weeks. You then have 2
weeks to return it or talk to me about renewing it.
And One Last Thing

For safety reasons, please do not tilt back in your chairs. If
you see the person next to you doing it, pat them on the back
for me!
What Can You Say in Just a
     Few Words?
Can you tell a story?
One boy. One summer. Broken
hearted.
Complete a diary entry?
Letting go of parents, being myself.
September, please be good to me.
The Goldberg Two are now Three.
Can you capture the essence of a
book in only a few words?
Library Challenge #2
Try to capture a book you like in one COMPLETE sentence.

Example

When a sister and brother run away to New York City, they
choose a magnificent building on 5th Avenue as their hideout.

At the end of class, I’ll collect your work. Next week, we’ll try
to guess your book based on the sentence you wrote.

HINT: Do not use any words that appear in the book’s title!
