FM4 – Section B
Specialist Study 2:
Spectatorship Topics – Spectatorship and
Documentary
Compare how two of the texts challenge the
“real” spectators expect from the genre of
documentary?
Text 1
Text 2
In your own opinion and referring to the notes you have already made, demonstrate your
understanding of the genre of Documentary by deciding what areas must be learnt if you
get a question on the presentation of reality to the spectator.
For example – what ideologies (John Grierson/Stella Bruzzi)
could you refer to at some point in your answer?
What is the most important example from any of the texts that
conform to the presentation of reality never being questioned
by the spectator
In your own opinion, (the bottom being the most important) what mode of documentary is
most effective in presenting the “real” to the spectator?
YOU MUST give specific example(s) from one of the Case Studies that demonstrates this
understanding. YOU SHOULD also write an introduction to your understanding in the box below
