Charles Babbage is considered the father of computers. He originated the concept of the programmable digital computer in the early 1800s. There have been five generations of computers since then characterized by improvements in size, speed, and capabilities. The first generation used vacuum tubes and were very large, slow, and prone to issues. Later generations saw the introduction of transistors, integrated circuits, microprocessors, and other advancements that made computers smaller, faster, more powerful and reliable. The fifth generation is focused on artificial intelligence capabilities.
