Generic Skills Key Competencies – Old School Employability Skills – New School
Key Competencies Established by the Mayer Committee in 1992 Described as fundamental  to the transfer and application of learning to and within workplaces Were/are included in a table at the end of every unit of competency in a Training Package
Seven Key Competencies Communicating ideas and information Collecting, analysing  and organising information Planning and organising activities Working with others and in teams Using mathematical ideas and techniques Solving problems Using technology
Levels of performance Stand alone levels that  do not  correspond to the AQF as this was not in place when the key competencies were developed Level 1 – perform/undertake Level 2 – perform and administer/manage Level 3 – perform, administer and design/evaluate and re-shape
What are the Employability Skills? Communication Teamwork Problem Solving Initiative and Enterprise Planning and Organising Self-management Learning Technology
Where have Employability Skills come from? Developed in response to requests from industry Represent non-technical competencies for effective and successful participation in the workplace transferable’ skills
What’s new? Not a new concept, but rather,  a new emphasis Replace Key Competencies Incorporated into Training Packages from July 2007 employability skills  Employability Skills
Employability Skills Summary One for each qualification Helps identify and include industry application of Employability Skills in training and assessment strategies
