Gerald Points Spring ISD – Principal Candidate
About Gerald Points Here at four years old, I spent time studying Physics and the properties of elasticity (throwing rubber balls and watching how high they go). My pre-school years were spent in the cities of southern Texas. I am truly a product of Arlington (38 years worth) and watched the suburbs grow into a city now approaching 370,000 people. I have worked in construction, cooked in restaurants, managed restaurants, partnered in restaurants, sold for CompUSA and Compucom. All of which have given me great insight and awe of people at their places in life. To the left - the reason for my passion, my wife, Kathleen, encouraged my two degrees from The University of Texas at Arlington (B.A. Psychology & Masters of Education in Teaching). With my management background and a love of children, we focused my collective skills and became an educator. Five years of teaching Science & Reading (5th & 6th Grade) prepared the way for my life's passion. (...and yes that is my own hair, then...)
Today’s Objective: To show that my passion and qualifications exceed the criteria necessary for a principalship in the Spring Independent School District
Agenda Sharing My Vision for an Elementary School Evaluation of Instructional Strategies Learning and Discipline Budget, Staff & Philosophy 4 3 2 1
Sharing My Vision for an Elementary School Courage: to understand that there are only so many hours in a day and only through the work of many dedicated individuals – dreams can be built. Building a better student requires the most important intangible part – a relationship. The educational machine must be personalized, hand-baked, nurtured, respected, and collectively shared in its maintenance.
Sharing My Vision for an Elementary School Servant Leadership Sets Example Sustainable Capacity Systems in Place
Sharing My Vision for an Elementary School Means of Sharing: Week at a Glance (WAAG) Wednesday Faculty Meetings (With some Staff Development time) Administrative Staffing Open-door Policy Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) Site Based Team & Team Leaders Talking the Talk & Walking the Walk

Learning and Discipline Without discipline – learning will be stifled Respect is taught & given Every student can and will learn Learning can only occur most effectively in the classroom De-escalation remains the key component in “keeping kids in class” Consistency, consistency, consistency Total parent involvement
Learning and Discipline Staff Selection and Retention: Dig for your “GOLD” Teach them to share the “GOLD” Others will come wanting to find this “GOLD” Good Ol’ Love & Discipline where Love = Learning When searching for gold, you don’t seek out the dirt. You dig until find gold ! Paraphrased – Zig Zigler
Budget, Staff & Philosophy Budget: Depending on the particular school’s make up, all expenditures must remain within the constraints set by the district. Fiscal rules MUST be adhered to for the school’s integrity. Site Based decisions will have a greater impact by empowering stakeholders. PTO/PTA must be separate but in the interest of the children. Title I funds must be properly allocated and documented.
