This document is a transcript of a talk given by Dorothea Salo titled "Grab a bucket! It's raining data!". In the talk, Salo discusses several key points about research data:
- There is a huge volume of research data being created, but it is diverse in nature and technical environments. Data needs to be interacted with and used, not just stored.
- Much existing data is already "out there" and was created without long-term preservation in mind. Libraries will need to actively preserve this data.
- Data comes in many formats, including analog materials like lab notebooks that should be digitized. Data is also often created for specific projects using various tools.
