1.PREAMBLE
The guidelines on thesis preparation are designed forstudents
preparing thesis in partial fulfilment of therequirementsforthe
awardofPostgraduatedegreebytheJawaharlalNehru KrishiVishwa
Vidyalaya.While,itisthecombinedresponsibilityofthemajorDepartment
/Sectionforthesubjectmattercontent.Theformatofthethesisto
bewrittenshouldbegovernedbyasetofcriteriaandstandardsinorderto
maintainuniformityintheses/thesis submittedto theUniversity.
Itis expected thatthe students and theiradvisorsshould
carefullyreadthismanualandfollowtheformatandstandardsinutterand
spirit.
A thesisisascientificdocumentembodying bonafideresearchwork
carriedbyastudent,onagivenproblem ortopic.Itisappropriate to
mention here thata thesisasdefined byWebsterisa “proposition
advanced and publiclydebated,defendedormaintainedbyacandidate
for university degree”.Therefore realfacts and verifiable evidence
(objectivedata)mustbereportedinthesisandnotmerelytheunsupported
opinion(subjectivedata).
Ifthe author’s opinions are given,they should eitherbesupported
withdatacollectedduringtheinvestigationoreitherthedataofother
investigations,thatsubstantiate the opinion expressed therein.The
investigationshouldbeso reportedthat,ifdesired,itmaybereadily
duplicatedandverified.Therefore,thetechniques(materialandmethods)

4.2 ReviewofLiterature
Reviewthemostrelevantliteratureaspectwiseinacondensedform withimportance
tothefindingsratherthantheauthor.Thereviewshouldhavelinkfrom oneaspectto
another.Avoidgivingirrelevantreferences.
Themainobjectivesofthischapteraretoknowwhathasalreadybeendoneonthe
proposedresearchprogramme;criticallyanalyzeandjustifytheproposedresearch
gaporunexploredareas;demonstratethegapwherethefindingsofthethesiswillbe
applicable;othermethodshavebeentriedtosolveit;showthattheproposedworkis
originalorsomeworkhasalreadybeendonewithproposedgaporreportingof
contrastresultsbytheworkers.

4.3MaterialandMethods
Thissectionexplainshowtheexperimentwasperformedwiththeincorporationof
followinginformationwithoutanyinterpretation. Impartenoughdetailtojudgethe
validityandaccuracyofresults,soundnessandpertinenceofinterpretationofthefindings
andtheirapplication.

placeofstudy,climateorweatherconditions,soiltypeincludingphysicochemical
propertiesandothersasrelevanttothestudy.Thegeographicalpositionofthe
