High Tech, Low Tech, No Tech; The making of a makerspace
What is a Makerspace?
A Makerspace is a creative Do-It-Yourself physical
space that provides hands-on, creative ways to
encourage students to dream, design, build,
experiment, learn and invent as they immerse
themselves in science, technology, engineering, the
arts and mathematics (STEAM).
Why does a school need a Makerspace?
Children by nature have a natural capacity to create. Increasing
evidence supports that students are more engaged, excited and feel
personally invested when they are creating and making. When they are
allowed to create personal, meaningful projects, they develop the
habits of mind necessary to solve their own problems: a critical
attribute of 21st Century learners.
