How did you use media technologies in the (1)
Cameras & tripod
Cameras
The camera I used mainly was the Canon EOS 550D along with 4 lenses: Canon 18-55mm with a fish
eye adaptor for a most of my shots, a Canon 18-135mm for long range shots, a Tamron 18-270mm
for more mid range shots and a Sigma 50mm macro lens for extreme close ups.
A good thing about the fish eye adaptor was that because my video was all about the protagonist
tripping out so the adaptor made really great obscure shots.
The second camera I used was purely for my POV shots, it was the Contour HD. The camera was
easily attachable to my head and also filmed in full HD 1080p so both quality of the cameras were
equal which made editing very easy.
Without the beautiful quality of both cameras I don’t think that my video would have been at all as
good as it was. I understand that its not all about the quality but with the crisp HD video capturing
every little detail. It was a great advantage as I was filming in a very
wooded area.
Cameras & tripod
Tripod
Throughout the whole construction of my video (apart from the ending on the hill) I filmed the video
by myself with the help of my tripod.
The most difficult part about filming by myself in a rural area was the definition of the ground it was
never flat, always a slight hill or mound of earth where the best angle for shooting is. I based myself
around the landscape, for the best angle of shot I would have to dig my tripod into the mud to make it
stable enough shoot. Another difficulty was for whenever I was shooting I would have to press record
run to the starting position, do the part and then run and stop recording. This ruined the battery life as
well as lots of unnecessary footage which took up a lot
of space on the memory card.
On the other hand filming by myself had its perks. One being I didn’t have
to rely on someone else to get the shots and or ruin the shot by not getting
exactly what I wanted. Another would be I could go to my locations without
organising to pick up a friend so I could spend more time filming.
Lighting
When creating my music video I knew exactly what shots I wanted and what areas in the mise-en-
scene I wanted the light to hit.
Considering all my shots are outdoors timing the lighting was vital, and at the time of year when I
was shooting it was hardly the right time for great sunshine, but in a way that helped my music
video’s lighting become monochromatic.

                                                                        Example. The clouds were grey
                                                                        meaning that the lighting was
very dull but as an advantage
there was no lens glare and
there was an equal amount of
                                                                        light in each shot.

Whilst editing the clips I made
sure every clip had a scheme of
                                                                        colour throughout to make the
clips all relate to each other.
Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
I used Adobe Photoshop for all of my products.
I thought of my Music video, album cover and poster as a triangle that all had to link all
together.

                                                                     Video

Video
A small part in my music video for the white face which appears subtly every now and then in my
video. I did this merely to add more mystery and ambience to the scene.
Album Cover
I downloaded a template for my album cover from the internet. I knew to a point what I wanted but it
took me a few tries for it to be perfect. I used stills from my video and merely edited them to created
a monochromatic colour scheme with a slight hint of colour. Using Photoshop it gave me all the
necessary tools I needed to complete this.
Poster
When I heard that we had to create a poster I immediately thought that this would be my strong
point, but, I admit I am a bit of a perfectionist and if there’s a tiny thing I don’t like then I wont be
happy with it. For example the font, I tried out a lot of fonts until I came across one I really liked and
which suited well for the poster. In the end I was extremely happy with the poster especially as it
linked to the album cover and the music video.
Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0
I would say the editing part of my music video was my strongest point. I have had a lot of practise in
my spare time, especially with music and footage put together to make the transitions and the music
sync together. The syncing of music and video to me is the most important part of the video.
Without the snap of a drum with a snappy transition just wouldn’t make the video flow elegantly.
Everyone would notice it being out of time.

Vegas has all the components you need to edit you video well, so with my shots most of them being
still, no panoramic shots etc. I used Sony Vegas to pan for me.
For example in this shot, originally the shot was still non moving but I zoomed in and then made the
focal point move across the screen.
